thinking differently
When I heard it at The Awakening it stunned me. I know this stuff deep in my soul, but sometimes the arrangement of verbiage from other voices can be shocking: “THE CHURCH WAS INSTITUTED AND COMMISSIONED BY GOD PRIMARILY FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT BELONG TO IT”. If we have the integrity to really stare that down, it will mess with us and our acquired taste for church-i-an-ity…or it should.
In my devo-time this morning, I also read: “The Church is not an end in itself, the Church is the means. The Kingdom is the end. And whenever we make the means into the end, we have created an idol.” -Rohr-
We have to start thinking differently.

OMG!!! you know I believe this so much… you CAN NOT make church the most important.. it’s a building.. it’s a place… if you spend all your time being with those who already know God what good are you doing? You have to get out, you have to DO, don’t just speak it.. don’t hide behind the doors of the church being afraid of what’s out there and what you might be exposed to. Live and live strong!!
I know some people need the security of the walls, of the building, of the congregation.. it’s fine for some as long as they don’t use it as a crutch to limit their possibility. If we don’t get out there and show who we are and what we’re about… then we’re lukewarm and what does God do with those of us who are lukewarm…
We each have the potential to have our own unique relationship with God exclusive from what those around us have. If you need help or support to get there go for it. Then get out and spread it!! Do something with the gifts and blessings that you’ve been given!! God lives in me and I have a great relationship with Him. I can’t let other’s come in between me and my relationship..
This happy thougths and happy action girl is just who she is!!
Love you guys and hope all is well with you!
Big hug to Fat Pat!!! 🙂
Thanks Missy! Even though in the context of what I have already posted and in the context of how I personally think, I rarely refer to “church” as the building where people gather to do God. In the strictest sense, “church” are the people who value God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The (oikos) or house is just sticks and stones. The (ekkle) is the assembly of the people, their gifts and their love of God. AS you have well stated, the people are the church…not buildings. Building do not pray for the sick, go do missions, love its neighbors, love its children, etc. Nothing wrong with buildings, programs, and events, but all references in scripture point to “church” as people and people as church! xo
Here’s hoping that all those “peeps” inside the walls venture out to spread some love and joy among those who may not know it.. we all know that’s my biggest pet peeve is being love and light with those w/in our “church famiy” and ostracizing those who aren’t.. it’s such a sad state..
